HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 cc2-3W
Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is the total cost of the increases in public service pensions announced in the past four years, 1973 to 1976 inclusive, in respect of all surviving public service pensioners; how many public service pensioners have survived to enjoy these four annual increases; and what is the overall percentage increase in his pension such a pensioner will have received over the four-year period as a whole.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The total cost of the increases paid to all public service pensioners for the years 1973 to 1976 inclusive is approximately £435 million. the cumulative percentage increase from 1973, including the 1976 increase which is payable from 1st December next, will be 82.7 per cent. I regret that the information about the number of public service pensioners who have survived since 1973 is not available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
