HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 cc73-4W
Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what was the cost to public funds of the Consumer Council over the last two years.

she proposes to take to protect their interests as consumers.

Mr. Maclennan

Questions about the prices charged by the British Steel Corporation are for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry. However, I understand that the British Steel Corporation is still trading at a loss. Tinplate is among the products not covered by the Price Code, in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty of Paris.

The Price Code will limit any increase in canned food prices to the amount by which allowable costs increase.
