Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the percentages and totals of his advertising budget allocated to both daily and Sunday newspapers at 31st December 1975 and to 30th June 1976.

Mr. Tomlinson

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office does not have a regular budget to cover advertising expenses.

Actual expenditure on advertising incurred by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1st January to 31st December 1975 was £677; of this £580, or 86 per cent., was spent on national daily newspapers and £97, or 14 per cent. on Sunday newspapers.

From first January to 30th June 1976 total expenditure was £16,066; of this £7,022 or 44 per cent. was spent on national daily newspapers and £9,044, or 56 per cent., on Sunday newspapers.
