Mr. John Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in theOfficial Report a table showing the average age at marriage of (a) males and (b) females, for each yeas since 1945.

Mr. Deakins

The average age at marriage in England and Wales in 1974 was 24.9 for bachelors and 22.7 years for spinsters. The figures for previous years are given in Table L of the Statistical Review of the Registrar-General for England and Wales for 1973 (Part II) which is in the Library.
