§ Mr. Scottasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many council flats in multi-storey blocks were built in Great Britain last year; and what future building of multi-storey fiats is planned or envisaged.
§ Mr. Armstrong5,764 flats in multi-storey blocks—that is, five storeys or more—were completed by local authorities and new towns in Great Britain in 1975. I am glad to say that the building of high blocks has declined markedly in recent years and the construction of new flats is now concentrated in buildings of up to four storeys. In the first nine months of 1975, tenders were let for the construction of only 1,404 flats in multistorey blocks.
