HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 cc12-3W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister for the Civil Service to what extent the Civil Service has adopted guidelines relative to the advertisement for posts in Wales, stating that in no circumstances should the wording of such notices include the suggestion that knowledge of the Welsh language is either desirable or essential; and how many advertisements issued in the past 12 months have made reference to any language qualifications.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

There are no such guidelines. If the employing Department specifies that a knowledge of the Welsh language is either desirable or essential, the advertisement states such a requirement. In the past year three of the Civil Service Commission's advertisements have referred to a requirement for some knowledge of the Welsh language.
