HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 cc14-5W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people in the different employment areas in the Leek parliamentary constituency, who left school at the most recent school leaving date, have still not obtained their first job.

Mr. Golding

Summer school leavers have been leaving day by day since 28th May. In the local education authority careers service area of Leek, which includes Biddulph and Cheadle, 94 school leavers were registered as unemployed on 10th June. Statistics do not define the date on which these young people left school but it is believed that the majority are those who left on or since 28th May.

Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people who left school in the summer of 1975 in (a) Inner London and (b) the Woolwich area are still seeking employment.

Mr. Golding

I regret that this information is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. The latest statistics show that in the area covered by the Inner London Education Authority's careers service 2,062 school leavers were registered as unemployed on 10th June and that of these 216 were in the Woolwich/Greenwich careers office area.
