HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 cc90-1W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food by how much he estimates that the food price index is likely to rise at the end of the transitional period.

Mr. Strang

The level of the food price index at the end of the transitional period will depend on many different factors, the likely effects of which cannot be predicted.

Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food by how much he estimates the food price index would rise if the green pound were fully adjusted.

Mr. Strang

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Hertfordshire, South-West (Mr. Dodsworth) on 7th June.—[Vol. 912, c.530.]

Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what has been the percentage incrase in food prices since February 1974.

Mr. Maclennan

I have been asked to reply.

Between February 1974 and May 1976 food prices, as given in the Department of Employment's General Index of Retail Prices, increased as follows:

Per cent. increase
All food 55.7
of which—
non-seasonal food 49.5
