§ Mr. Formanasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing both in terms of the relevant local currency and converted into £ sterling at the appropriate exchange rate, for each present member State of the EEC for each year since 1945: (a) gross domestic fixed capital formation, (b) gross domestic fixed capital formation by the private sector, (c) investment in plant and machinery and (d) net domestic fixed capital formation.
§ Mr. Denzil DaviesThe available information in national currencies on gross96W domestic fixed capital formation and capital consumption—from which net domestic fixed capital formation can be derived—for the years 1960 onwards is given in country tables 1 and 3 of "National accounts—aggregate tables 1960–1974" published by the Statistical Office of the European Community. Estimates of investment in plant and machinery for the years 1970 to 1974 are given in country table 8 of "National accounts—Detailed tables 1970–1974". Estimates for earlier years are shown in country table 1 of "National accounts of OECD countries 1950–1968" published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Estimates relating to the private sector only are not available. I regret that the extraction of this information from these sources, and its conversion to £s sterling, cannot be carried out without a disproportionate expenditure of time and resources.
