Mr. Alexander Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is: (a) the total number of school teachers employed in the public sector in Scotland and (b) the total number of persons employed by his Department and local government in administering and servicing education in Scotland.

In September 1975, 55,855 teachers were employed in education authority schools in Scotland. The latest figures relating to educational administration areStaff of SED, excluding the Royal Scottish Museum at 1.4.75–701. Local authorities at mid-year 1973–74–1,948 whole time and 138 part-time.
