HC Deb 30 January 1976 vol 904 c375W
Mrs. Hayman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she has now concluded her consideration of a special earnings disregard for single parents in receipt of supplementary benefits.

Mrs. Castle

We have given careful consideration to the question of an extra earnings disregard for single parents receiving supplementary benefit and have decided that the amount they can earn before their benefit is affected should be increased from £4 to £6 a week. We intend to make this improvement, which will entail a change in the Supplementary Benefit Act, as soon as it is practicable to do so.
