asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he proposes to allow capital grants for shelter belts in view of the decline in private woodland plantings.

Mr. Peart

Grants towards the cost of shelter belts are already available for agricultural businesses in hill areas, for horticultural businesses and where shelter belts form part of development plans approved under the Farm and Horticulture Development Scheme. The legisla- tion governing the capital grant schemes does not permit grants for afforestation as such.
