Dr. M. S. Millerasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has had from the Scottish TUC in respect of the proposed closure by Rolls-Royce (1971) of its factory at Blantyre in view of the effects on employment; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. William RossI have had no representations from the STUC about this proposed closure. I understand that Rolls-Royce hopes that the transfer of work from Blantyre to Hillington next year will cause no net loss of jobs other than can be met by natural wastage and voluntary measures.
