asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of hospital patients in Scotland is in mental hospitals.

During the year ending 30th September 1974, the latest year for which information is available, 46 per cent. of the total bed days of all hospital departments was attributable to patients in departments dealing with mental illness, child psychiatry and mental deficiency.
