HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 cc289-90W
20. Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, if he will compare the average interest being currently charged on new borrowing for agricultural investments with that being charged in France and Germany.

Mr. Peart

Because of the variety of interest rates charged in the United Kingdom and in France and Germany it is not possible to give an accurate average figure for new borrowings in the agricultural sector. Bank overdraft rates in the United Kingdom are now about 13 per cent. to 13½ per cent. Similar rates in Germany for mid-January were about 8¼ per cent. to 9¼ per cent and in France about 10.05 per cent.
