HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 cc321-2W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the likely loss of revenue to the gas and electricity industries in 1976 as a result of the "Save It" campaign.

Mr. Benn

I am advised that it is not yet possible by available methods to make meaningful estimates of the revenue effect of the "Save It" campaign on individual fuel industries. Although there are indications of significant savings in energy consumption as a whole, the impact of the campaign cannot be separated from the totality of the Government's conservation effort, including the move to the economic pricing of fuels. Nor is it possible to say how far the impact has fallen on or will in future fall on gas and electricity because of the possibilities of substitution between the fuels and between them and coal and petroleum products.
