§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will seek powers to forbid drivers of vehicles, found by testing centres to be in a dangerous condition, from driving those vehicles away from the centres.
§ Dr. GilbertVehicles which fail the MOT test are not specifically prohibited from being driven elsewhere for repair, although the legal obligation to comply with the roadworthiness regulations continues to apply. While I have not received any evidence that there is in practice a risk to road safety of a degree to justify the inconvenience and cost to motorists of instituting a system such as my hon. and learned Friend proposes, I am looking at the position and will institute suitable arrangements if they are shown to be needed.
