HC Deb 22 January 1976 vol 903 c547W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which local authorities in Scotland have set up supportive services for the single homeless through voluntary agencies, as recommended in the Department of Health and Social Services 1972 Circular 37/72.

Mr. William Ross

While the Department of Health and Social Services circular does not apply in Scotland, local authorities in a number of areas are using their powers under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 to support, with both staff and money, voluntary organisations working with the single homeless. In addition, Government grant through the urban programme and Section 10 of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 is being paid towards the cost of hostels and shelters in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh, all these projects including the involvement of local authority social work staff.
