As one of the measures the Government have taken to alleviate high unemployment I am satisfied that the Temporary Employment Subsidy scheme is making a significant contribution by encouraging the deferment of marginal redundancies and so far sustaining more than 12,000 jobs. On 17th December the scheme was extended by a reduction of the qualifying redundancy figure from 50 or more to 25 or more workers affected.
