§ Mr. Frank Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment why the Engineering Industry Training Board's scholarship scheme for girl technicians has been confined to Birmingham and the South-East.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the Engineering Industry Training Board is introducing later this year a pilot scheme to provide scholarships for girl school leavers to demonstrate the possibilities of training young women as technicians in the engineering industry. Birmingham and two locations in the South-East have been selected for these pilot schemes as they are considered to be in catchment areas offering the best prospects of success. The extension of the scheme to other areas will depend on the results of these pilot courses.
