§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for Industry if, in the light of the fact that unemployment on Merseyside is about three times the national average, he will visit the region at the earliest possible date, to meet interested parties to discuss the industrial regeneration of the region.
§ Mr. Gregor MackenzieI share my hon. Friend's concern with unemployment in Merseyside about which I am kept fully informed. I have also visited the area to see the situation for myself. We decided to make Merseyside a special development area in August 1974 in order to assist with its industrial regeneration. In addition the National Enterprise Board will have a strong regional presence in Merseyside. The Board has already appointed the officer to be in charge of its office there.
