§ Dr. GilbertThe Department has been involved over the last 12 years in development work both on toughened and on laminated safety glass; in evaluating the relative merits of each; and in appraisals of relevant research and development work carried out by other bodies both in this country and abroad. The Department's total spending on all this work has been about £100,000. Since all these activities have taken place closely in parallel, however, it is not practicable to identify the amount spent on comparative studies of the kind to which the hon. Member refers.
