§ Mr. Ronald Brownasked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what progress has been made by the Central Electricity Generating Board since May 1974 in planning arrangements for the SGHW nuclear reactor power plant; and if he is satisfied with that progress;
(2) what discussions he has had with the Chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board concerning SGHW nuclear reactors; and if he is satisfied with the direction being given to that programme.
§ Mr. BennI am in regular touch with the Chairman of the CEGB as with all parties concerned in the SGHWR programme, and am satisfied with the direction being given to the programme. The CEGB is working closely with the Nuclear Power Company. They are determined to ensure that the design of the SGHWR is well established before construction is started. I agree with the need for careful planning, and I have told the parties that I would not wish to see them try to cut corners.
