HC Deb 26 February 1976 vol 906 cc316-7W
Mr. Bradford

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will give, at the earliest possible moment, the total amount of compensation which has been claimed because of destruction incurred in Northern Ireland by the IRA between the death of Frank Stagg on Thursday 12th February and Sunday 15th February 1976.

Mr. Concannon

The submission and processing of claims for compensation takes time.

In the context of dealing with compensation claims for injuries either to property or persons, it would not be possible to seek to distinguish between acts caused by the Provisional IRA or any other unlawful organisation.

In the light of statements made by the Provisional IRA themselves and from evidence in the hands of the Police, the Provisional IRA can be taken to be responsible for most of the destruction caused during this period.
