HC Deb 24 February 1976 vol 906 c118W
Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the procedure in respect of the recommendations he makes to the Queen for senior appointments to the Church of England.

The Prime Minister

I have had two meetings recently on this subject with the Archbishop of Canterbury and Sir Norman Anderson, Chairman of the House of Laity of the General Synod. The Archbishop and Sir Norman are also having talks with the Leaders of the main opposition parties, as I myself have had. Discussions are continuing, but I consider that satisfactory progress has been made and I hope to make a full statement to Parliament in due course.
