asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what is his estimate of the cost to public funds of educating an undergraduate for a three-year first degree course at a British university;

(2) what is his estimate of the cost of educating an undergraduate for a three-year first degree course at a British university.

In the financial year 1974–75, the latest period for which information is available, the average annual institutional recurrent cost, excluding student support, for a student at a British University is estimated to have been £1,800, of which £1,750 was borne on public funds.
