§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the cost to the Exchequer of each of the economic development councils in the latest year for which figures are available.
§ Mr. DellThe cost of the National Economic Development Office falling on the Treasury Vote and excluding allied services—accommodation, printing, etc.—in 1974–75 was £1,265,963. At that time the Office was servicing in addition to the Council, 16 economic development committees and numerous subordinate committees and inquiries, besides its other functions. I regret that no breakdown of the costs attributable to the work of the individual EDCs is available.
