Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what has been the saving to the National Health Service, and in social security benefits, resulting from any drop in the number of deaths of and injuries sustained by motorcyclists since the compulsory wearing of crash helmets;

(2) if she will estimate the annual saving in social security benefits if the annual number of deaths from road accidents falls by 1,000 and the number of serious injuries by 11,000.
