HC Deb 18 February 1976 vol 905 c717W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his estimate of the incidence of drinking under age; and what steps he intends to take to reduce this.

Dr. Summerskill

No reliable estimate can be made. The legal prohibitions against serving young people under 18 in bars, and against their buying or consuming intoxicants there, are clearly set out in Section 169 of the Licensing Act 1964. Their enforcement is a matter for the police and the courts.
