HC Deb 18 February 1976 vol 905 c718W
Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if, in view of the high level of unemployment now prevailing in the West Midlands, he will, over the next two years, provide the same incentives to industry as are provided to other regions of high unemployment.

Mr. Varley

Measures to counter unemployment, such as the temporary employment subsidy, can benefit firms throughout the West Midlands. The West Midlands has also benefited from the Government's action over British Leyland, Alfred Herbert and Chrysler, and will benefit from schemes to bring forward investment projects which would otherwise be deferred, as well as from schemes to modernise industries such as machine tools, ferrous and non-ferrous foundries.
