Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if she will publish in the Official Report Table 44.02 of Social Security Statistics expressed in 1975 prices for the years 1960 to 1975;

(2) if she will publish in the Official Report Table 44.04 of Social Security Statistics expressed in 1975 prices for the years 1960 to 1975;

(3) if she will publish in the Official Report for each year since 1960 (i) expenditure on each of the national insurance benefits and (ii) total expenditure on national insurance benefits, both as a percentage of gross national product;

(4) if she will publish in the Official Report total social security expenditure for each year since 1960 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(5) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on national assistance/supplementary benefit divided into supplementary pensions and allowances, for each year since 1960 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(6) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on family allowances for each year since 1960 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(7) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on family income supplement for each year since 1971 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(8) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on non-contributory benefits for the disabled for each year since 1971 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(9) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on old persons' noncontributory retirement pension for each year since 1970 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product;

(10) if she will publish in the Official Report expenditure on war pensions for each year since 1960 (a) in 1975 prices and (b) as a percentage of gross national product.

These 10 statistical Questions asked by my hon. Friend would involve a considerable expenditure of time and effort to answer, and I do not feel justified in asking my Department to undertake the task involved. If, however, there is a specific problem on any particular aspect of social security benefits which concerns my hon. Friend, and he will let me know, I shall be glad to see whether I can help him.
