HC Deb 18 February 1976 vol 905 cc697-8W
Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many trained pilots were serving in the Army and the Royal Marines, respectively, in the years 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970 and 1975.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The numbers of trained pilots on actual flying duties or on duties directly connected with flying were:

Army
1955 210
1960 250
1965 330
1970 445
1975 403
Royal Marines
1955 10
1960 5
1965 24
1970 48
1975 50

It is not possible, without disproportionate effort, to identify the numbers of trained pilots serving in these two Services, but not on duties connected with flying, during the years in question.
