§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Lord President of the Council if he will make a statement about the work of the Government's counter-inflation unit.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThe Counter-Inflation Publicity Unit, set up in July 1975, launched the first phase of its publicity campaign on 20th August when the main features of the policy were explained in an advertisement in the national Press, followed by a house-to-house distribution of about 21½ million copies of a simplified version of the White Paper "The Attack on Inflation" (Cmnd. 6151).
The second phase lasted from the end of October to the beginning of December and consisted of advertisements in national newspapers and a wide range of provincial papers, together with certain specialist papers. In these advertisements leading industrials and trade union leaders gave their reasons for supporting the fight against inflation.
The third phase has just begun. The selective price restraint scheme just announced by the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection will be publicised by the use of TV, national and trade Press advertising and the provision to firms of identifying material.
Research has been undertaken in regard to various facts of the campaign.
