§ 31. Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a further statement on Angola.
Mr. James CallaghanWe have now recognised the People's Republic of Angola and its government in Luanda. I ope all parties in Angola will agree there is an urgent need for reconciliation so that outstanding problems can be settled and vital communications reopened. There is a responsibility also on foreign governments to contribute to this, and I refer particularly to the Governments of Cuba and South Africa by withdrawing their troops forthwith from Angola and by refraining from any action affecting the security of neighbouring African countries.
§ 23. Mr. Malcolm Rifkindasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will request the British Ambassador to the United Nations to raise in the Security Council the involvement of foreign troops in Angola.
Mr. James CallaghanI would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a Question on 28th January by my hon. Friend 731W the Member for Oxford (Mr. Luard)—[Vol. 904, cc. 409–410.]
