§ Mr. Dudley Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give particulars of the 12 firms which have received, in aggregate, the greatest value of road building contracts placed by his Department in the past three years, and the total value of the contracts received by each.

Mears Construction Ltd. 12.9 11. Amey Roadstone Construction Ltd.(d) 12.7 12. Percy Bilton Ltd. 12.4 (a) This firm has received five other contracts in consortium with Leonard Fairclough Ltd. valued at £40.9 million.
(b) This firm has received one other contract in consortium with Kier Ltd. valued at £9 million.
Kier Ltd. who are themselves part of the French Kier Group received one other contract valued at £3.6 million.
(c) This firm received another contract in consortium with Bovis Civil Engineering Ltd. valued at £9.9 million, and one in consortium with Amey Roadstone Construction Ltd. valued at £4.2 million.
Sir Lindsay Parkinson & Co. Ltd. who joined the Fairclough Group in 1974 have also won two contracts valued at £9.9 million.
(d) In addition to the contract in consortium with Leonard Fairclough Ltd. (£4.2 million) referred to at (c) above, this firm received another contract in consortium with Marples Ridgway Ltd. valued at £9.5 million.
