Rawlinsonasked the Attorney-General, in the years 1974 and 1975, how many cases or persons—whichever figure is most conveniently available—were disposed of by trial in the Crown courts, and, if available, the percentage of those (a) pleading guilty, (b) convicted after trial, and (c) acquitted.
§ The Attorney-GeneralDuring 1974, 60,418 persons were tried in the Crown Court. Of these defendants 62 per cent. pleaded guilty to all charges, 22 per cent. were convicted after trial and 16 per cent. were acquitted on all counts. Figures for 1975 were 67,600, 63 per cent., 22 per cent. and 15 per cent. respectively.
