HC Deb 17 February 1976 vol 905 c667W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to make the displaying of CD plates on motor vehicles by persons other than accredited diplomatic representatives a criminal offence.

Dr. Gilbert

No. There is no evidence that such use of the plates is widespread, but in any event CD plates have no official status in the United Kingdom and confer no privileges on their users. Diplomats' vehicles are identifiable by the exemption recorded on the tax disc.
