Mr. John Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what have been the declared losses/gains and the capital write-offs of the British Gas Corporation, the Electricity Council and the National Coal Board for each year since 1960.

The following is the information requested:

—on the ground that it was not expedient for such provision to be made, but taking into account also that the council was contributing half the cost of the site in Hammersmith; and Westminster—on the ground that site provision in the borough was neither necessary nor expedient.

The consideration of applications by Lambeth, Southwark and Tower Hamlets Borough Councils has been deferred pending further consideration of the matter by those councils, following rejection of their claims for exemption. Applications by Camden, Islington and Lewisham Borough Councils are still under consideration.
