§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will take steps to ensure that contact lens solutions are subject to quality controls in order to prevent damage to the eyes.
§ Dr. OwenWe intend shortly to lay before Parliament a draft order which will enable the licensing provisions of the Medicines Act 1968 to be applied to contact lenses and solutions for use with them. In the meantime a working party has been reviewing the criteria that should be applied in the assessment of the safety and quality of these solutions, and a number of manufacturers have supplied preliminary information on their products.
