HC Deb 11 February 1976 vol 905 cc233-4W
Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services at what stage of development is the district general hospital in Leicester; and what phase of construction she estimates will be commenced in the new financial year.

Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will make a statement on the progress of the new teaching hospital in Leicester.

Dr. Owen

The Leicester Royal Infirmary is the main teaching hospital in the area. It is hoped that phase II of the development will be in use towards the end of 1977. The Regional Health Authority hopes to let a contract shortly for residential accommodation in support of this phase. Working drawings for a third phase are being prepared.

It is intended that the Royal Infirmary should be one of three district general lodged within eight weeks of the event which gave rise to it.

Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average patient load per general practitioner in (a) inner urban areas, (b) outer urban areas, (c) other areas and (d) overall for 1972–73, 1973–74 and 1974–75, respectively.

Dr. Owen

Information in the form requested is not available. Information about average list sizes of doctors providing the full range of general medical services in England is as follows:

hospitals serving Leicestershire, the others being the Leicester General Hospital and the new hospital at Glenfield. The Regional Health Authority has not yet had its capital allocation for 1976–77 and has therefore, not decided its programme, but the Glenfield project is at an early stage of planning and will not be ready to start in that year.
