HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 cc42-3W
Mr. Arnold Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for Trade to what special factors he attributes the rise in exports of tobacco and tobacco products from £68,900,000 in 1974 to £106,345,000 in 1975.

Mr. Carmichael

I have been asked to reply.

I can only attribute the increase to strong demand for these United Kingdom products, and our manufacturers' ability to supply it. The increase in volume terms for cigarettes, which formed the major part of our exports, was about 15 per cent.
