HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 c29W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which Articles in the Treaty of Rome set out the powers of the European Assembly.

Mr. Hattersley

The main provisions of the Treaty relating to the Assembly are contained in Articles 137 to 144. The Council is required to consult the Assembly on proposals made by the Commission under numerous articles of the treaty. The Assembly has specific powers in relation to infringements of the treaty under Article 175 and in relation to the Community budget under Articles 203 and 206.
