asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will recommend a change in the criteria for the presentation of the Queen's Award for innovation to include the development or application of improved energy efficiency.

Mr. Deakins

Technological developments which improve energy efficiency can be eligible under present criteria for the Technological Award. There is, therefore, no need to change the criteria to encourage developments of a kind which Her Majesty's Government would warmly welcome.
