HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 cc6-7W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what saving in manpower and staffing costs could be achieved if the working week for civil servants were increased to 40 hours, with 28 days annual leave and standard public holidays.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The conditioned hours for most civil servants are 41 in London or 42 elsewhere. A substantial majority of civil servants are entitled to less than 28 days annual leave a year. Information is, however, not available centrally which would enable reliable calculations to be made of the effect on manpower or staffing costs of variations in the number of working hours or amount of annual leave.
