HC Deb 06 February 1976 vol 904 cc784-5W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the registered unemployed in November 1975 were in receipt of unemployment benefit; how many were in receipt of supplementary benefit only; and how many were not entitled to any benefit.

Mr. Meacher

Of those persons who were registered as unemployed on 3rd November 1975, 524,850 were in receipt of unemployment benefit, and 359,577 were in receipt of supplementary benefit only. Details of the number who were not entitled to any benefit for that day are not available, but 194,177 of the registered unemployed were receiving neither unemployment benefit nor supplementary benefit on the day of the count. This includes those whose claims to benefit were still under examination, a proportion of whom would subsequently be found to have been entitled to unemployment benefit for that day.
