§ Mr. Robed SheldonA retirement pensioner whose income consists only of the708W basic State retirement pension is not liable to income tax this year. Retired widows or single women pensioners under the age of 65 may be liable for small amounts of tax if their basic pension is supplemented by an extra pension for working after the age of 60, or by a graduated pension. The number in this position with no other income is thought to be small; and the Inland Revenue will not this year raise asssessments on those among them who are brought above the tax threshold for the first time.
