Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will issue a circular of advice to local authorities urging them to consult with trades unions prior to the making of policy decisions leading to cuts in manpower.

My right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Employment, announced today that he has made a Commencement Order for the provisions in the Employment Protection Act 1975 dealing with redundancies to come into operation on 8th March. As my right hon. Friend indicated, a leaflet giving guidance on the provisions will be available shotly.
