§ Mr. Hugh JenkinsGovernment subsidy to orchestras, as for other artistic activities, is provided through the Arts Council of Great Britain. I understand that in 1974–75 the total of such grants to orchestras other than those attached to subsidised opera and ballet companies amounted to about £1.75 million. This figure excludes expenditure by local authorities, BBC orchestras, regional arts associations and commercial support and sponsorship.
