HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 c429W
19. Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what plans she has to change the law requiring packaged foodstuffs to contain a minimum weight.

Mr. Man Williams

I informed the House on 28th November 1974 that the Government accepted the need to adopt the average weight system for prepacked foodstuffs following a decision by the United Nations Committee concerned. The Working Party, the setting up of which I referred to when the House debated the subject on 28th November 1974, will be reporting its recommendations later this year, and I hope to introduce the appropriate legislation in due course.
