HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 c416W
Mr. Steen

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will make a statement on his recent visit to Government offices in the North-West.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

I visited the following six Government establishments in the North West on 6th and 7th January: Department of Employment. Runcorn; Her Majesty's Customs and Excise, Liverpool; Property Services Agency, Liverpool; District Land Registry, Lytham; Her Majesty's Prison, Preston; Royal Ordnance Factory, Chorley.

During the course of these visits, I was able to meet many civil servants at all levels, doing a wide range of administrative, social and industrial work, often in difficult conditions. Amongst those I met, I found a sense of dedication to their service to the community which was most encouraging, despite their understandable resentment of recent inaccurate and misleading Press criticisms.
